Need a little of advice! - My Les Paul Forums
Let me just start off by saying that i love guitars, and i love everything about them (not to mention i like tube amps too =) ), but in any case i have been playing for about 6 years or so now i started when i was 13 and did not take it very serious up until highschool. Now there is not a day that goes by that i do not pick up a guitar. I am not in a band or anything but i would really like to start jamming with people. My main problem is keeping time i've tried countless times to play with a metrognome and it just Clicks, and cant get into a groove. I can somewhat play along with songs, but not really. all i can really do is just bust out leads, licks, and chops. but i know that it takes a lot more than that to be a Musician. i went to my friends little brothers recital yesterday, and it was awesome nothing like watching 11 year old kids just rockin on stage! It kinda me thinking why i wasn't in a band, and i have come to the realization that i simply do not think i am good enough to play in with other people. i do not want to make a fool of myself. Does anyone have any thought or recomendations maybe ideas of how i can tighten my playing up so i will be an up too par musician? Use some grammar... Anyways, if I were you I would practice songs that use heavy rythm work. Match the timing exactly. Anywho, a metronome is used to keep time of a piece, which is why it clicks. It helps to give you a sense of rythm. An instructor would do you a world of good as would learning to read sheet music and understanding it.
